History

Table Rock Lake and its surrounding communities are located in the Ozarks.  The region is actually an eroded plateau containing wooded, mountainous land.  Birding is a popular past time as the lake area is home to many Bald Eagles.

The Ozarks were originally home to several tribes such as the Osage, Cherokee and Choctaw.  At the time of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, there were a handful of white settlers along the Wilderness Trail which wound its way through Kimberling City and across the White River where the Kimberling City Bridge now crosses over Table Rock Lake.  The legendary James Gang, the Youngers, Quantrill's Raiders, the Bald Knobbers and Bonnie and Clyde all used the Wilderness Road at one time or another.  Several Civil War battles were also fought in the area.
